From the Port of Wismar to Timmendorfer Strand: The Odyssey of the Humpback Whale
It all began in early March: Fishermen were astonished when they suddenly saw the giant whale in the port of Wismar. A few days later, the animal drifted towards Lübeck Bay, where it became stranded on a sandbank near Timmendorfer Strand. A nighttime rescue by dredger and a channel dug by hand caused jubilation – the whale swam free.

… But the joy was short-lived. Barely a week later, it landed again off Wismar. Presumably, depleted energy reserves and remnants of an old fishing net in its mouth are interfering with its navigation.
