I stripped the bed, gathered the sheets, and lifted the mattress to vacuum underneath. Nothing seemed unusual at first.
Then I saw them.
Tucked into the corner beneath the mattress was a small cluster of tiny black grains.
My heart skipped a beat.
At first glance, they looked exactly like insect eggs.
Dark.
Round.
Slightly shiny.
The kind of thing nobody wants to find in their bedroom.
I immediately stepped back and stared at them from a distance.
The more I looked, the more uncomfortable I became.
Were they from insects?
Rodents?
Some kind of infestation?
I had no idea.
